Naoki Sakai

/ Thursday, December 2, 2010 /

This is an interesting portfolio. Suzuki SW-1, Nissan Be-1, Pao, Figaro, (the Wartburg look-a-like) Rasheen and the Olympus O-product were all penned by Naoki Sakai. "Product design is repeated incest. Basically, things are copied and copied and copied until somehow they become originals again. I love being copied. Copies are better than the originals."

Where's the love?

Black Gold Spectre 80's. So many elements of the 80's have been reinterpreted, filtered and redefined and made their comeback, but this I've yet to see (Yamaha also had their Virago Midnight, a bit more aquired taste I guess). In my 20 bike dream garage, I could maybe find a place for this monster but only if I'd repaint the awful scarlett color in white or maybe matt silver.

Streetbike / Munich

On a businesstrip to Munich this bike sat outside the hotel. I love this. Its so rugged and un-designed, almost anti-design.
